Beyond cell receptors
Cannabinoid receptors are often what we associate with the endocannabinoid system. But, the ECS is more complicated than that. Enzymes also have a crucial role to play in the process. In a way, enzymes are kind of like Pacman. They gobble up various compounds, change them, and then spit out the parts. In the ECS, enzymes break down leftover endocannabinoids. Enter non-psychoactive CBD.
Enter Athletix or "non psychoactive CBD". While THC binds with cannabinoid receptors directly, CBD does not. Instead, it works it’s magic on an enzyme. The enzyme in question is called FAAH, and it is responsible for pulling excess anandamide out of circulation.
CBD stops enzyme FAAH from breaking down all of the anandamide, and therefore makes more of it available for use by your cells. This is why CBD is a natural mood-lifter without psychoactive effects.
CBD and Runner’s High:
What is Runner’s High: a sensation of pure happiness, elation, a feeling of unity of one’s self with nature, endless peacefulness, inner harmony, boundless energy, and a reduction of pain sensation. Runner’s High motivates us to exercise and sustain intensive aerobic activity over long durations.
We naturally produce anandimide which activates our CB1 and CB2 receptors to produce psychological and physical rewards like euphoria and pain relief. The relationship between Endocannabinoids and exercise is that the brain has an ECS which gives us runner’s high, we aren’t producing endorphins as previously thought, it’s your endocannabinoids kicking in.
Exercise makes your body create anandamide, the chemical compound in your body that makes you feel in the zone. How does CBD affect Anandamide? It works against fatty acid amid Hydroxylase, the enzyme responsible for the breakdown of anandamide, by reducing the compound that destroys the thing you want, it inevitably makes you feel good, so an increase in runner’s high.
CBD works as an analgesic both during and after exercise, by reducing pain and inflammation overall, and aiding in the recovery process, it also reduces inflammation in the heart, the lung and the brain and reduces muscle spasms.
